Transition Fair 2009 October 8, 2009

The Lincoln County R-III School District is ensuring students with disabilities reach their goals after graduation even if they do not attend school in the R-III District. On Wednesday, October 21, from 6-8 p.m., the Lincoln County Transition Team will host a Transition Fair for students with disabilities at Troy Buchanan High School. This FREE event is open to any disabled student in the R-III District, as well as Silex, Elsberry, Winfield, Wright City and Warrenton. The purpose of the Transition Fair is to make students and their families aware of all of the services and opportunities available to them after graduation. Transition Fair organizer Lora Wattelet compares this effort to a relay team.

"They never let go of the baton, but rather, they place the baton in the next runner's hand and they run together until the second person has a good grip on the baton. That is what we are trying to ensure for students with disabilities. Our goal is to not let a student with a disability leave high school without supports for post-secondary success," she said.

Agencies that will be represented at the 2009 Transition Fair include the Troy Chamber of Commerce, Pike-Lincoln Technical Center, Missouri Protection and Advocacy, Community Opportunities, Hannibal Regional Office, Lincoln County Health Department, Options for Justice, The LINC, Boone Center, Earthwise Industries, Job Point, Missouri Career Center, Crider Mental Health and many more! The Transition Fair will be held in the commons of Troy Buchanan High School from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2009.
